Six Pence Pub Reviews

I live in Blowing Rock and can say that Six Pence has had its share of good and bad wait staff/bartenders (but hasn't every dining establishment?). The current bar staff is a wonderful pleasure. One bartender in particular, Eric, always takes perfect care of everyone and all the bar staff are very talkative and friendly, as well as helpful. Being that we are right on the edge (7 minutes away) of a large university town, bars and restaurants will have their fare share of slack, careless staff both in the kitchen and out front (honestly, though the first reviewer claims to be more forgiving of the kitchen, that's where i would prefer more attention be paid). I have worked in the food industry for a few years and find six pence to be not only a great bar to go to and relax but also their food isn't bad either. But I really love the bar setting. It's not usually slam-packed, which I prefer. It is generally less of a college crowd as well, so it's quieter (it can get rowdy of course. come in when i'm on my 4th gin and tonic! -p) Try out six pence.

The previous comment is rather harsh. I have been to this restaurant/bar several times and have always had great service. Sure, any establishment will have its off nights and that is why I think this person should revisit Six Pence and find his experience to have been a one-time disappointment.

After a day of fun the mountains and friend and I went to Six Pence for dinner. While both of us have been in the restaurant busniness for over 30 years it did not meet our expectations service wise. As this is not the first time dinning there I was very dissapointed in the service at the bar. The female bartender doesnt need to be in the hospitality business. We asked for plates to share an appitizer and finally just started eating off the plate, then when dinner came she was no where to be found so we got up and got our own rollups. She never once asked if we needed anything or how was dinner. The other bartender was too busy watching tv. Also she never asked if we wanted another drink, and when it was time for the check she never said a word, NO thank you nothing she just put the check under the beer taps and walked away.
On a good note the fish and chips were great, the reuben needs help one side didnt have any cornbeef on it but I am very forgiving with the kitchen. The service at the bar was the worst I have ever had. I have had more kind service at a drive thru at a fast food restaurant. I will go back for the food but will never sit at the bar again to hear the other servers talk about the night they had before and whose partying at there house etc.
