Madeira Restaurant

I was trying to enjoy an anniversary dinner in the bar area and from the moment we sat down a very drunk, belligerent man was loudly confronting another at the bar. Even after being ignored, he continued to be loud and using curse words. He was served more alcohol and as we were ending our meal, he escalated and was now harassing the staff, including the owner. Even after me going to the owners wife, (who was not that receptive to me) and the owner, he was only asked to leave. Thank goodness another patron of the bar stood up and tried to escort the man out. Feeling VERY unsafe (the man picked up a beer bottle aggressively), the man yelled and was belligerent, swearing the whole way out. The police came (because a person at the restaurant, NOT any of the staff called them), and he was gone. The comments from the staff were “He always does this”, and “I don’t know how many times I have talked to this guy”. How is this ok? Why is he allowed in time and again. I left there feeling scared and shaky. The only saving grace was out wonderful server who was so kind, but her name escapes me.
