I can not believe Guignard Diner has been in business for over 10 years after my recent visit for lunch. While raised in Sumter, after High School I entered the Military and did not return until 30 years later, so at least I have an excuse for not knowing about this small eating establishment except for the last 4 years. As mentioned before, having been born and raised in South Carolina, in both Bishopville then Sumter. The 70's Sumter had two restaurant's that most all who were residents during that decade will remember today and for long into the future, Cole's and Big Jim's. We remember them not only for the excellent food they provided Sumter but also as part of our young culture during the 50's, 60's and 70's. I mention them not because we are able to revisit that culture of our youth but we can certainly revisit the food that made them famous. Guignard Diner serves up daily, the staples that made those two legendary establishment's so special. I found it to be a true working man's dinner table, providing the home made tastes we remember from the dinner tables our Mama's set. While I am a huge fan of Broasted Chicken, I certainly wasn't raised on it and the Fried Chicken at Guignard Diner, a finer Authentic Southern Fried Chicken I have yet to encounter since my return to South Carolina. As a retired US Navy Submariner, when I think of being a
