The Gist : expensive, convinced, different, special

  • Wonderful warm octopus special, followed by the seafood pasta special and the linguine with clams. The octopus was, hands down, the best dish. The window seats were nice for people watching and will be nicer when the scaffolding outside comes down. The decor in the bathroom was appreciated -- a slate wall and chalk provided, so that graffiti is permitted but not permanent, and a wall of toilet paper rolls. A nice, reasonably priced, selection of wine by the glass. Wasn't told (and did not ask) the price of the specials, and found they were more expensive when the check came, but I would have considered ordering them at the price charged. The linguini vognole was saltier than I would have liked, but that just means I'll order something different next time. Certainly worth a repeat visit.

    1. We accidentally bumped into Aria restaurant last Saturday on our short visit from London. Being spoiled with greatest Italian food in London's restaurants we didn't expect much more than a decent pasta. Little did I know...

We were attracted to the Aria restaurant/wine bar by it's looks. The owners created cosy almost "feels like home" atmosphere by serving food at the bar that you share with other guests overlooking the kitchen.

We were surprised that food was more like "Italian tapas" as the portions were not big and you had to order approx, 3-4 dishes per person. All the dishes were freshly made and scented of everything you can imagine about Italy. Ravioli was flavoured with fresh rosemary, octopus salad was the softest I've ever tasted and my boyfriend was convinced he had the best lasagne ever. They are not trying to invent new dishes, they stick to fresh produce and recipes written ages ago by Italian mama. You can't really go wrong with that, can you?

Also, the chefs were chatting Italian with each other, which added charm and authenticity to our dining experience.

Highly recommended and will definitely be back for this local and delicious experience soon.
